About Us
In the southern part of Tamilnadu, Mr. M. Subburam, a consumer activitist, with a national thinking, started to organise the movement in the early 1993. He started the movement at Madurai, the pivotal city of Southern Tamilnadu. It is a non-governmental organisation, i.e. a Voluntary, non-profitable, non-political, civic minded, secular organization, registered under the Societies Act, bearing its registration number, 25/1993, to work for the promotion and development of consumers interests, welfare and awareness. FEDCROT covers many of the Southern Districts in Tamilnadu like Madurai, Dindigul, Erode, Coimbatore, Sivagangai, Ramanathapuram, Virudhunagar, Tirunelveli and Chennai. There are more than 7500 life members, all over Tamilnadu. This is a movement for the people, of the people and by the people. It is one of the largest Consumer Organisations in the country. It is serving in the rural parts of the State, in bringing Consumer awareness to the poor villagers and giving protection to those affected by the malpractices of the traders, in the daily life.
Originally, the association was formed in 1993, with a title as ‘Tamilnadu Consumer Rights Protection Council’ and then in accordance with G.O. of Govt. of Tamilnadu, the name was slightly changed as ‘Tamilnadu Consumer Rights Protection Centre’. After 14 years of hard work in establishing the association all over Tamilnadu, the Association has changed its title in 2007 as ‘Federation of Consumer Rights Organisations of Tamilnadu’, shortly known as ‘FEDCROT’. All efforts are being taken to bring the organisations in the field of Consumer Protection, under one umbrella. |
